RHOMBUS Rides: July 2nd

Are you going to be in town on Canada Day weekend? Looking for fun things to do?

RHOMBUS is having a special ride; extra long and with a picnic at the midpoint!

The plan: Meet at Alderney Landing at 9:30 a.m. We’ll start doing our route up to Shubie. However, when we hit our usual stopping point (the Dartmouth Crossing connector) we’ll keep going. We’ll eventually hit the end of the trail. We’re estimating that our first leg will finish around 11. That’s when we’ll stop and unpack our lunches.
After enjoying some delicious snacks and conversation, we’ll pack up and head back downtown to enjoy some post-ride desserts and coffee. We’ll decide our cafe by popular decision that morning.

Ride: Waterfront to Waverly
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult
Terrain: Streets, paved trails, gravel trails
Estimated ride time: ~180 minutes

Interested? If you’re on Facebook, you can RSVP. Details are also available on our Schedule. Otherwise, just show up that morning!

Critical Mass – June 2011

Critical MassHave you heard about Critical Mass?

Well,  it’s a monthly bike ride in Halifax. With no purpose. Other than to ride your bike. In public. And everyone’s welcome!

So we’re going to give it a go on Friday, June 24th. And we’d like you to join us!

The ride starts at 6 at Victoria Park. From what we’re told, there are a lot of people attending. So how will you know us? We’re all going to wear red (and we encourage you to do so as well) and we’ll have our logo as stickers over our hearts. So look for the group of red shirts!

The ride should be leisurely as people of all ages are welcome.

If it’s popular, we may do this all again in July and August.

Canada Day Weekend 2011

It might only be June 1st, but let’s look ahead to July 1st, shall we?

This will be our second long weekend since we started. But the weather will probably be nicer and lots of people go away for Canada Day weekend.

So, we have to determine if we should have a ride? If so, what kind of ride?

Please take a moment to vote in the poll below. We’ll post the final decision a week or two before Canada Day.

RHOMBUS rides!

Hey there!
If you’re getting this, hopefully you’re interested  in joining a group for LGBTQ* mountain biking in some trail rides this summer. Well, we’re proud to announce our plans for the summer.
  • Who? We had a planning meeting and decided on the name RHOMBUS, an acronym for Rainbow Halifax Off-road Mountain Bike Users Society.
  • What? A purely recreational off-road/trail biking club. Essentially, we’ll all meet, ride for a bit and then go for a coffee afterward.
  • When? We’re thinking two times a week; one Saturday morning ride and a weeknight (probably Tuesday).
  • Where? Saturday morning rides are going to be at Shubie Park in Dartmouth. Our weeknight ride will be at Point Pleasant Park.
  • Why? Fun!
  • How much? There aren’t many operating costs but we are encouraging all members donate $5. That money can be spent on special events (such as a season-ending party or, if we opt to, registration fees for the Pride parade).
Our first (introductory) ride is Saturday, April 16th at 9:30. This will be a light ride, starting at the Alderney Ferry Terminal and riding the Dartmouth Harbourwalk trail to the Woodside Ferry Terminal. Then, we turn around, head back and grab a bite to eat or coffee (maybe Two if by Sea?). We’re budgeting two hours for the entire event (including post-ride coffee).

What is RHOMBUS?

It’s the Rainbow Halifax Off-road Mountain Bike Users Society: a recreational trail and off-road cycling for Halifax’s LGBTQ* community.
